Rosilyn Brown
is the eldest daughter of Norman “Turkey” Stearnes who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. on July 23, 2000. She is a native of Detroit and has resided there for 77 years. She graduated from Cass Technical High School majoring in vocational music, holds a BA in Business Administration from Madonna University and an MBA in Public Administration from Central Michigan University (graduated from all three with honors). As an educational tool, she wrote a musical about her dad that was performed at her school, Edward Duke Ellington Conservatory, during “Black History Month”.

Among her list of accomplishments are; 4 th place in the Detroit City Spelling Bee in 1961, the American Legion Award, Woman of the Year at her church in Warren, plays 7 instruments, singer with the internationally known Brazeal Dennard Chorale, music minister at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Warren, sings the National Anthem as a duet with her sister Joyce at Comerica annually during “Negro Leagues Weekend” and author of a book written about her dad entitled, Fans Called Him “Turkey”, I Called Him Dad that was published in February 2023. Her book is available for purchase at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, McFarland Books (publisher), as an e-book and for reading in several libraries in the Metro Detroit area. Book talks are a frequent part of her schedule.

She retired twice after 40 years – from Ameritech as a supervisor after 27 years and Detroit Public Schools as an accompanist/teacher for 13 years at Edward Duke Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art. In addition to music and academics, she loves family and sports. She takes pride in the fact that her family is growing and has one adult son, five adult grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
