Joseph Robert Lapointe

Joe Lapointe is a semi-retired journalist who covered sports for 35 years at the Chicago Sun-Times, the Detroit Free Press and the New York Times. He first met Norman (Turkey) Stearnes when covering a reunion in Kentucky in 1979, shortly before Mr. Stearnes died. Lapointe is a graduate of Wayne State University. He began his career in sports as an usher at Tiger Stadium. Although Mr. Stearnes also spent many days there in the same years, they never crossed paths there until Lapointe arranged a photo session at home plate in the last weeks of Mr. Stearnes' life.
